Abstract: Significant historical events that affect entire populations can influence the process by which genetic material is inherited from generation to generation and leave marks in that genetic material. Traces of these marks may potentially still be identified in current day populations.

In the talk we will describe admit a failure in our first attempt, an attempt that was presented in the seminar last year, and propose an alternative approach. Our second attempt builds on a method that was proposed by Li and Durbin (Nature, 2011). We try to generalize their approach and propose a more standard statistical formalism that fits the inclusion of DNA from ancient sources in the analysis.
